My Knockers

I hope you are all doing well!

I've been pretty busy getting the house all settled and everything organized. So far I've got the kitchen done. So I only have about 80% of the house left. Baby steps.

Thankfully, I have also had a little bit of time to craft. In a previous post, I told you about how I've always wanted replicas of the door knockers from the movie Labyrinth.  Since I was unable to find them anywhere I've decided to attempt to make my own out of paper mache.  I have finally been able to get started.

With this project I won't be posting one big super detailed tutorial.  It's going to be a massive craft that I will only be able to work on periodically, so I plan on just posting progress as it happens.  Exactly how these things are going to turn out or if they are going to turn out is going to be a complete surprise to all of us.

So here is what I've done so far:

 - I looked at a ton of different pictures and watched the little clip on You Tube a billion times and sketched up a basic idea of how I want them to look. I'm not exactly thrilled with the one on the right but I'm hoping I can figure out what I don't like about it in the sculpting part.

- Next I took a large bowl and traced a circle onto a piece of foam board and carefully cut out the circle.

- Actually, I cut out two circles...

- Next I took the best picture I could find of the front of the first knocker and added a few hundred guide lines so I can better keep the proportions as I redrew it larger onto one the foam circles

- This stage I cut out some ears, horns and the little extra curls out of card stock. Then I just taped them into place with some masking tape.

- I went over everything with a black sharpie and I'm done with this step.  I just need to do all that for the other one and I can start the paper mache step.  However, for right now this is all I have.  I know, not very exciting yet, but I needed to post something for you all!

Hopefully, I'll have a lot more for you next week.  I also recieved all of the pictures back from the wedding so expect a final wedding post soon.  I can't wait to show you how all of my DIY decorations turned out!

Have a good weekend!
