Pinterest Picks 5/23/13: DIY Home Improvements

I'm officially married!!!

And can I tell you... I don't feel any different.  It kind of feels like we just played dress up for a day and then now I call him my husband instead of boyfriend/fiance.  He and I actually had a conversation about how he felt bad saying he didn't feel any differently and was quite relieved when I told him I felt the same. Don't let anyone tell you that everything changes when you get married, because they are lying. :)

Anyway, now that we are married, I have a whole house that needs a little bit of love. Okay, a LOT of love. Which means, I need some serious inspiration on how I can transform this dark and pretty dated old house. (Don't worry I'll post pictures soon.)  The key though is I need to be able to do a complete house overall for as cheap as possible.

I've been searching on Pinterest all day to try and figure out some ideas.  Here are some tips and tutorials I've found that I definitely plan on using in the near future! I hope they can help you too.

Paint Your Tile Floor

via Love Stitched

Over at Love Stitched I found this incredible tutorial on how exactly to cover up old ugly tile without ripping everything up and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I will most definitely be trying this out soon.

Another great tutorial on painting floor tile can be found over at Curbly! I just love that clean white look. I'm glad there is a cheap solution to covering up ugly tile... because ugly tile, I got!!

Fireplace Makeovers

The Lettered Cottage found via The House of Smiths

The House of Smiths created an awesome blog post that shows all kinds of easy and relatively cheap fixes for old fireplaces. Almost all of the fireplaces are fixed with a little bit of paint and/or building a simple faux mantle around the front.

Re-purposed Old Doors

Via Dishfunctional Designs

Dishfunctional Designs created a great inspiration post on all kinds of different things you can do to re-use old antique doors.  I especially love all the ways you can make shelves from old doors.

via LiveLoveDIY

The lovely Virginia over at LiveLoveDIY has compiled a list of 10 easy ways to reupholster a chair!  I have quite a bit of furniture that is going to need to be updated and I can't wait to try these out.
